Staff:
 ·         All elementary classes are invited to the 3rd grade music program“Mighty Minds” on Wednesday Oct 23rd at 8:30am.

Elementary School:
 ·         Can you smell them?  They’re back, your favorite smencils like watermelon, cotton candy and root beer.  Smencils will be on sale for $1.00 during lunch time.  HANDS club will be using the profits to help prevent malaria.  Did you know a child dies every minute from malaria?
 
·         Through November 8th, in honor of Veteran’s Day on November 11th, our school will be participating in a district wide collection for our service men and women.  We are asking each student to bring in boxes of baby wipes for soldiers to wash with.   Items will be then sent overseas in time for the holidays for our
servicemen.  There are boxes in the office to place your items.  Please take the time show you care about the men and women serving our country.  Your support is very important to our veterans.
 
·         Veteran’s Wall of Honor:  If you know of anyone who is or has been in the armed forces, consider honoring them by decorating a star with their name and/or picture on it.  If you don’t know anyone, you can decorate the star with a thank you note on it.  Starts need to be turned in by Nov 4th.
 
·         Picture Retakes are scheduled for Friday, October 25th.  Students that were not here on picture day can turn in a picture order form to the photographer (available in the office) or pre-pay online and give the printed receipt to the photographer.  Students wanting retakes must return original photo packets to the photographer at the time of the sitting.  Order online at www.inter-state.com using code 407293 (Elementary School) or 407291 (Middle School.)
 
Middle School:
 ·         Starting today and running through November 8th, in honor of Veteran’s Day on November 11th, out school will be participating in a district wide collection for our service men and women. We are asking each student to bring in boxes of individual packets of hot chocolate.  Items will be then sent overseas in time for the holidays for our servicemen.  There are boxes in the office to place your items. Please take the time show you care about the men and women serving our country.  Your support is very important to our veterans.
 
·         Remember that this week is Red Ribbon Week.  Tomorrow's theme is Drugs are Bad, so Wear Plaid!  Show that you are anti-drug by wearing your favorite plaid shirt, pants or socks and don't forget to keep wearing your Red Ribbon each day this week.
 
·         Come out and join us on Thursday, October 24th for our Annual F2MN.  It’s a chance for you to find out that math isn’t so scary!  10 extra credit points are awarded to each student who participates.  Please make sure to enter and sign in at the appropriate door: 6th graders use Door 1, 7th graders use Door 2, and 8th graders use Door 5.

 ·         Volley for a Cure is Tuesday, October 22nd from 6:30pm – 8:30pm.  Come out and support a great cause and take part in the many activities that will be going on in addition to the exciting volleyball game.  We will be selling yummy treats, pink accessories, and loud noise makers. You can have something made by the air brush artist.  You can pink yourself up with face paint and hair spray.  You can win awesome prizes at our raffle table.  You can honor someone you love whose life has been altered by cancer. Tickets can be purchased during lunch or at the door for $5.00. Hope to see you there!

 ·         Sixth grade students: Don’t forget to turn in your Halloween Dance permission slips and money to the middle school office.  If you need a new form please pick one up in the office.  Remember that you are allowed to wear a costume to  the dance but that it must follow school dress code.  If you have any questions please see Mrs. Hager.

·         Beta Club is selling the tickets for the Volley For A Cure Volleyball Game.  Next Tuesday, October 22nd from 6:30 to 8:30pm, the 8th grade Volleyball team will challenge the St. Thomas 8th grade team in a volleyball game to raise money for Breast Cancer treatment and research.  Beta Club members have tickets to sell and tickets will also be available during lunch periods. Admission is $5.00 and includes a slice of pizza and a can of pop.  We are hoping to pack the bleachers with Westfield fans wearing as much pink as possible. We will have many fun things you can do during the game to support this worthy cause.  There are many awesome prizes that you can win if you purchase a raffle ticket for a dollar.  We will call the winners at the volleyball game.  Also for a dollar, you can purchase several different pink noisemakers to help our fans cheer on Westfield or get your face or nails painted or your hair colored pink.  We will again have an air brush artist to design cool shirts and hats for the fans.  Stop and take a look at the Beta Club Display case at lunch and see what we will have available at the game.   We will appreciate your support. Let’s go Westfield – Get Pink and make some noise!!!

Go Lunch!!

At Westfield, we don’t tolerate this type of behavior.  On Wednesday Oct. 16th wear the color ORANGE to show you won’t allow bullying at our school.  ORANGE is the official color of bullying prevention month.

 ·         Intramural Volleyball ended last week with some pretty exciting final matches. Thanks to all the boys and girls that came out to play and we hope you had a lot of fun.  Congratulations go out to the “Yeah Buddy” team that won the Championship game and earned first place. The members of that team were:  Lexi Postelnick, Rumyr Sobrepena, Bryce Vincent, David Postelnick, Michael Grell, Baylee Vincent, Elizabeth Schwartz, and Madison Santos.  Great job and we hope to see you next year.  Mrs. Woods and Mrs. Sink

 ·         D300  Multicultural Festival is Sunday October 20th from 11am to 5pm at Spring Hill Mall.  Featuring
performances& workshops by D300 Students (including WCS students) and multicultural groups.  The festival
is free.

 ·         FAMILY FUN NIGHT OCTOBER EVENT is at the NO LIMIT ARCADE FRIDAY OCTOBER 11TH / NOON-MIDNIGHT for only $15.00 you will get unlimited game play open till close.
 o    Plus - Take a snack/dinner break at DAGO DOG or BUDDYZ.  Both a few doors down, simply show your hand stamp from NO LIMIT ARCADE
 o    Pre-K through 8th grade, come on out and have some fun!
 o    Please join us for some Westfield Family Fun!  Come see classmates, teachers, and maybe a Principal or two at NO LIMIT ARCADE. 
o     SPREAD THE WORD!!!

  envelope marked "Directory." Please include your student's name and teacher or
team. Though not necessary, order forms are available in the 9/24 VB. Checks may

Staff:
 ·         All elementary classes are invited to the 2nd grade music program on Wednesday Oct. 9th. 
The program will be at 8:30 or as soon as possible after coming in from “Walk to School” day.

Elementary School:
 ·        Attention girls ages kindergarten through 8th grade, if you are interested in attending the Jacobs High School Dance Team Fall Clinic on October 26, 2013 please pick up an informational flyer in the main office.
 
Middle School:
 ·        Attention girls ages kindergarten through 8th grade, if you are interested in attending the Jacobs High School Dance Team Fall Clinic on October 26, 2013 please pick up an informational flyer in the main office.

 ·         It’s Here!!  Fuel Week in the Cafeteria!  All next week will be “Chicken with a Kick”.  Each day we will be offering spicy popcorn chicken bites and cajun tater tots.  Tuesday & Thursday there will be a new deluxe spicy chicken sandwich with pepper slaw. Both are undeniably delicious with bold gusto!!  So Fuel Up!! Go Lunch!!

 ·         7th grade boys interested in basketball:  Tryouts are schedule is as follows:  (All boys that are in XC do NOT attend tryouts until Tuesday 10/15).  See Coach Martens with any questions.
